AFCON Update: Chelle Targets Victory Against Tanzania

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has made it clear that his team’s full focus is on securing victory against Tanzania when both sides clash in their opening game of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Chelle spoke on Monday during his pre-match press conference ahead of the encounter against the Taifa Stars, stressing that the team has moved on from past disappointments and is fully committed to the task at hand in Morocco.

“We are here and we have a game tomorrow and also a tournament, so we don’t have the time to think about what has happened before,” Chelle said.

The Super Eagles failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but the former Mali national team coach insisted that the AFCON is now the priority for him and his players.

“This is not the moment to talk about the World Cup qualifiers. For now, the most important thing is this tournament,” he added.

Chelle further emphasized the importance of starting the competition on a positive note, describing the opening fixture as crucial to Nigeria’s campaign.

“Our first game is a big game, and the first game is very important. For sure, we want to win this game,” he concluded.

Nigeria will face Tanzania in their Group fixture on Tuesday as they begin their quest for continental glory at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
