AFCON Update: Injury Rocks Camp Of Super Eagles Opponent

Barely 40 days to the start of the 2023 African Cup of Nations, news coming from the camp of Nigeria's Super Eagles opponent the Elephant of Coted'Ivoire is not palatable as one of their key players is injured, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Winger Nicolai Pepe sustained a muscle injury on Sunday while playing for his club Tranzonspor in the Turkish Super Lig against Kayserispor.

The Trabzonspor medical team, in collaboration with the Ivorian selection staff, are currently assessing the extent of the injury, and an MRI is scheduled for Monday. 

Pepe who has 33 caps and scored 10 for the Ivorian national will be a big miss for the host country is ruled out of the competition.

Coted'Ivoire will play Guinea-Bissau in the opening game on January 13th before facing the Super Eagles in the second match.
