Sampson Adedeji
The preparations of the Teranga Lions of Senegal for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations have suffered a major setback following the injury of key player Illay Camara, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Camara sustained the injury on Tuesday and has been ruled out of the tournament, dealing a significant blow to Senegal’s campaign as the defending champions intensify their final preparations for the continental showpiece.
Reacting to the unfortunate development, the star player expressed his disappointment at missing out on what would have been his first Africa Cup of Nations appearance with the national team.
Despite the setback, Camara pledged his full support to his teammates throughout the competition.
“It was a huge dream for me to play in my first Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal to wear my country’s colours, to experience this adventure with the team, and to go for a second star together,” Camara said.
"These are the kinds of challenges that football and life sometimes throw at us, even if they are difficult. All we can do is accept our destiny and keep moving forward.”
Camara also assured the squad of his unwavering backing as they chase continental glory in Morocco.
“I will be behind the team every step of the way, as their biggest supporter, to encourage my brothers and send them all my strength. I have faith in this group and I wish them all the best in going all the of way and bringing the trophy back to Senegal.”
