AFCON Winner Urges Super Eagles To Stay Disciplined As Nigeria Targets First Title Since 2013

Former Super Eagles midfielder Mutiu Adepoju has urged the national team to adopt a serious, disciplined, and highly focused mindset as preparations intensify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Adepoju, a member of Nigeria’s 1994 AFCON-winning squad, told Brila.net that only proper preparation—in training, tactics, and mentality—can help Nigeria end its 12-year wait for a fourth continental crown.

Nicknamed “The Headmaster” for his renowned aerial prowess during his playing career, Adepoju warned that Nigeria’s reputation as one of Africa’s traditional giants ensures that every opponent raises its performance when facing the Super Eagles.

While many observers consider Nigeria’s AFCON group favourable, Adepoju cautioned against any form of complacency.

“I think we shouldn’t have problems if we do things right and the players do their job very well on the pitch,” he said.

The former Real Sociedad and Racing Santander star stressed that technical preparedness, squad unity, and mental resilience will be decisive factors in Nigeria’s quest to reclaim the title they last won in 2013.

Nigeria, three-time African champions will head to Morocco as one of the tournament favourites, but Adepoju insists success will only come if the team demonstrates the discipline and commitment required to navigate the challenges ahead.
