AFCON-Winning Coach Raises Concerns Over Super Eagles’ Attacking Power
Sampson Adedeji
Former Africa Cup of Nations-winning coach, Claude Le Roy, has expressed doubts about the true strength of Nigeria’s frontline ahead of the 2025 AFCON, insisting that the Super Eagles’ goal tally in the recent World Cup qualifiers does not tell the full story, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Speaking to Canal+, Le Roy said the statistics were not convincing considering the level of opposition Nigeria faced during the qualifiers.
“When you don’t qualify for the World Cup and you are Nigeria, I’m not impressed by the statistics of 20 goals in 12 matches with the offensive potential they have,” he stated.
“It’s not against irresistible teams but Benin and Gabon, so we need to put things into perspective.”
Despite scoring 20 goals across 12 qualifying games including the play-offs the Super Eagles still failed to secure a spot at the global showpiece.
