AFL: Gara Gombe Calls For Enyimba Sanction
By Sampson Adedeji
Following the handwritten jersey number worn by Innocent Gabriel during their clash against Wydad FC in the African Football League in Uyo on Sunday, former chairman of Gombe State FA Gara Gombe has called for a heavy sanction on Enyimba international, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Defender Gabriel’s jersey No.3 was handwritten instead of printed, which sparked criticisms.
While speaking to the Punch correspondent, Gombe dismissed all the excuses tendered by the club official insisting that they are aware of their participation in the competition.
“For a team like Enyimba there is no excuse for such an act because they were informed that they would be playing in the Africa Football League and that competition is a tournament of its own and different from the League and even the CAF Champions League.
“Enyimba should be above writing the name and number of a player with a marker in an international game, it is an embarrassment and totally unacceptable and therefore they should be heavily sanctioned", he said.
