The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has formally invited 29 athletes 14 men and 15 women to the national training camp in Abuja as preparations intensify for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The selected athletes are expected to report to camp starting Thursday, June 25, 2026.

According to the AFN, the squad was chosen primarily on the basis of standout performances at the recently concluded national trials held in Lagos.

Athletes who were unable to participate in the trials due to visa-related issues were also considered based on their established competitive records.

Nigeria is set to compete in 18 athletic events at the Glasgow Games, with particular focus on the relay teams.

The country will field squads in the men’s 4x100m, women’s 4x100m, and the mixed 4x400m relays.

The national camp is expected to serve as the final intensive preparation phase, allowing coaches to fine-tune strategies, assess form, and build team cohesion ahead of the multi-sport event.
