AFN Targets Relay Qualification At Ghana Championships
Sampson Adedeji
After missing the qualification mark for the Tokyo 2025 World Championships during the National Trials in Lagos, the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) is regrouping for another attempt in Accra, Ghana, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Both the men’s 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams fell short of the required standard in Lagos.
Meanwhile, the women’s relay hopes were dashed entirely as the AFN could not assemble teams for either the 4x100m or 4x400m events due to the low turnout of foreign-based athletes.
The absence of key sprinters Tima Godbless, Favour Ofili, Rosemary Chukwuma, and Ella Onojuvwevwo proved costly, leaving the federation with no competitive women’s relay squad.
With the Lagos opportunity gone, the AFN is now racing against time to secure tickets for its relay teams.
The focus shifts to the CAA Region II Senior Athletics Championships in Accra, scheduled for August 13–17.
