Precious Oham
The race for the third place finish and a continental spot at the end of the 2024/2025 NPFL season will go down the wire between the trio of Abia Warriors, Ikorodu City and Enyimba FC, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Imama Amapakabo's led Abia Warriors side seemed to be the favourites after an impressive run-in of performance for a continental spot.
The Umu Chineke Boys defeated fumbling Shooting Stars 3-1 to take their tally to 56 points after match day 35 to place them in the third position.
They will contend with Niger Tornadoes in Kaduna before hosting El-Kanemi Warriors while they travel to Lagos to face off with enterprising Ikorodu City in a make-or-mar encounter.
Debutants Ikorodu City FC may have achieved their goal of retaining their top-flight status but are in the pole position to nick a place in the continent.
Currently, on 53 points, the Oga Boys will fancy their chances with double home games against Bayelsa United and Abia Warriors, respectively.
The clash against newly crowned champions, Remo Stars, on match day 37 in Ikenne may be a formality for the hosts against the visitors.
Surprisingly, Enyimba FC have managed to be in the mix again after beating Rangers International at the Cathedral in Enugu.
The People's Elephant, who occupy the fifth position and on 53 points, have relegation-threatened Kwara United, Nasarawa United and Plateau United to contend with in their last three games respectively.
They will host Kwara United and Plateau United at home but will travel to far away Gombe State to take on Nasarawa United in their adopted home ground.
Recall that Remo Stars were crowned champions after a slim one-nil home win over Niger Tornadoes which gave them a 10-point lead over second-placed, Rivers United.
