ASABA 2022: 200 Lifters Battle For Gold In Weightlifting

No fewer than 200 lifters are will battle for gold in weightlifting events at the ongoing 21st edition of the National Sports Festival in Asaba, Delta State, reports BSNSports.com.ng.
The Technical Director, of Nigeria Weightlifting Federation, NWF, Mr Christopher Nwadei disclosed this in a chat with NWF media on Monday.Â
Speaking ahead of the commencement of the weightlifting event, Nwadei who expressed the federation's readiness, said that each lifter will be competing for three medals in each eventÂ
"We are good to go and we are going to commence competition with the 45kg women. And we are expecting close to 200 athletes to compete for medals.
"We have done the weigh-in which commenced by 7:30 to 8:30 (Monday). We are waiting for the competition to begin.
"As it is, each athlete can win up to three medals - three gold, three silver and three bronze medals - will be awarded in each weight category," said.Â
He added that the competition will feature 10 categories each in men and women.Â
The weightlifting competition for the 2022 National Sports Festival is held at the Multi-purpose Hall of Orchid Hotels, Asaba, Dela State.Â
The events will be rounded off on Saturday, December 9, with the presentation of medals to winners.Â
