Abeokuta 2025: South Africa Tops Entry List For CAA U-18, U-20 Championships

With less than three weeks to the third edition of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) U-18 and U-20 Championships, defending champions South Africa have submitted the highest number of entries for the competition, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The South African contingent consists of 100 entries, including 42 male and 40 female athletes, alongside 18 officials expected to travel with the team to Nigeria for the event, which will take place from July 16 to 20 at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Algeria follows with 65 entries comprising 30 male and 19 female athletes, supported by 16 officials.

Egypt has registered 57 entries, 21 male, 20 female athletes, and 16 officials, while Zimbabwe will participate with 50 entries, including 30 male and nine female athletes, accompanied by 11 officials.

Morocco rounds out the top five with 49 entries, consisting of 27 male and 16 female athletes and six officials.

Several other countries have also confirmed their participation, including Botswana, Ghana, Uganda, Congo, Namibia, Djibouti, DR Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Benin, Seychelles, Guinea, South Sudan, Libya, Cameroon, Gabon, Mauritius, and Senegal, with entries ranging from 37 to five.

Additionally, Eswatini, Somalia, Niger, Cape Verde, Malawi, Lesotho, Comoros, and Angola have submitted entries for the championships, which are expected to showcase the next generation of African athletics stars.

Meanwhile, entries are still pending from host nation Nigeria, as well as Eritrea, Kenya, and Ethiopia.
