Abuja Agog As 48 Clubs Jostle For FCT ABL Unity Cup

Not fewer than 48 Clubs will participate in the maiden Adedayo Benjamin-Laniyi (ABL) FCT Unity Championship which kicks off Saturday, 8th July, 2023, BSNSports.com.ng can report.
The 21-day grassroots football tourney will be played simultaneously across all six Local Councils in Abuja with eight registered clubs participating in each Local Council. According to the Convener, Adedayo Benjamin-Laniyi, the aim is to give platform to young hidden talented footballers across Nigeria Capital to flourish their careers. The Happy City Project CEO added that football is chosen because it is a tool that can be used to unite Nigerians irrespective of their religious, ethnicity, political affiliations.
Declaring the tournament opened, the Permanent Secretary of FCT Adminstration, Adesola Olushade donated football to herald the competition and to also show total support for the tourney.
Also speaking, the Chairman Local Organising Committee, Mr Moh Mohammed described the tournament as a medium to discover talents in FCT. He stated that the competition would be played in six venues where each Local Council will produce two clubs. The twelve clubs who will qualify for the Second Round will gather in the FCT City Centre to fight for the Quarter final slots all through to the final. According to him, two teams will be picked at the end of tournament, The Champions and The Discovered Talents.
The Global Ambassador of the tournament and former Super Eagles captain, Kanu Nwankwo urges Nigerians particularly FCT residents to troop out in supporting the tournament adding that it will help budden talents in FCT at its environs to flourish their football careers.
