Echezona Madueke and Aliyu Abdul Muumin emerged as the top performers at the Abuja Armwrestling Open Day, which took place on Saturday at the Kuje Sports Stadium Complex, reports BSNSports.com.ng.

Madueke, known by the nickname “Biggy,” dominated the 100kg category, while Muumnin triumphed in the 50kg category, defeating Abdulraheem Aliyu in a thrilling contest.

Madueke, competing in his first-ever arm wrestling event, expressed his excitement about discovering the sport.

“Honestly, this is my first time hearing about this sport, and it’s such an interesting game, but it needs a lot of concentration and technique. I thank the organizers for considering Kuje as the first point of call to launch armwrestling in Abuja,” he said.

Aliyu Abdul Muumnin, echoing Madueke’s sentiments, emphasized the game’s staying power in Kuje.

“Armwrestling has come to stay in Kuje because it’s a game of strength and energy and requires adequate concentration,” Muumnin noted.

Engr Samuel Jackson, President of the Armwrestling Federation of Nigeria, was elated by the enthusiastic turnout and participation. He explained the rules, regulations, and strategies behind arm wrestling, reflecting on the growth of the sport since its federation was formed in Lagos 13 years ago.

Jackson highlighted the federation’s success on the international stage, noting their recent haul of 13 medals at the African Games in Accra, Ghana.

“I welcome you all to this groundbreaking event at the Kuje Sports Stadium Complex today,” Jackson said.

“Your presence and willingness to listen to our pep talks about the game show that Nigeria’s new arm wrestling champions are born here in Kuje.”

The event concluded with medals and gift items presented to all participants.

Jackson extended special thanks to Abuja coordinators Mr Uyi Joachim and Ms Omolola Joy Olatunji, as well as Mr Abdul Adesola, a certified Armwrestling Referee, for their dedication to making the event a success.
