Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja, is set to host the 3rd National Para Games from March 26 to April 3, 2026, in what is billed as the country’s largest and most prestigious para sports competition.

More than 3,000 athletes representing the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory are expected to compete in 15 sports over nine days of competition. The event will celebrate athletic excellence, resilience and inclusion, while providing a national stage for athletes living with disabilities to demonstrate their talents.

Organised by the National Sports Commission, the Games have evolved into a key fixture on Nigeria’s sporting calendar. Beyond competition, the event serves as a strategic platform for talent identification, national unity and the continued development of para sports across the country.

The 2026 edition is projected to surpass previous instalments in both scale and organisation, with participation confirmed from every state and the FCT. Officials say the competition will also serve as a pathway for outstanding athletes to progress to continental and international championships.

In a significant boost to preparations, the National Youth Service Corps has partnered with the Commission by making its Orientation Camp in Kubwa, Abuja, available as the official Games Village. The facility will accommodate athletes and officials throughout the event, providing a secure and community-oriented environment.

The collaboration reflects a broader national effort to strengthen support systems for para athletes while promoting youth engagement and social integration through sports. Organisers have expressed confidence that the 3rd National Para Games will not only deliver high-level competition but also reinforce Nigeria’s commitment to inclusivity and equal opportunity in sports.
