Access Bank Lagos City Marathon: Lagos Government Opens Probe Over Incident

The Lagos State Government has opened an investigation into an unfortunate incident that occurred during the 11th edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon held on Saturday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The state government confirmed the development in an official statement released shortly after the event.

According to the statement, the incident happened on Friday, February 14, 2026, near the finishing line area of the marathon.

“An ambulance deployed as part of the official medical emergency response for the event was involved in an incident in which a female non-athlete within the event arena came in contact with the vehicle while it was conveying athletes who had earlier required medical attention,” the statement read.

Authorities disclosed that officials immediately alerted the ambulance crew to stop upon noticing the situation.

The emergency medical team promptly assessed and evacuated the affected individual for immediate care before transferring her to a public health facility for further evaluation.

The victim reportedly sustained bruises and complained of chest pains but was stabilised at the scene, with her vital signs confirmed to be stable.

She is currently receiving medical care and is said to be responding positively to treatment.

The government further stated that the Lagos State Ministry of Health and the Lagos State Sports Commission are closely monitoring the situation, with senior government officials paying visits to the hospital.

 “The patient is stable and under close professional supervision. A thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is underway,” the statement concluded.
