Activities Return As Captain Clears Air On IBB Golf Club Saga

By Niyi Busari

The Captain, IBB International Golf Club, Ibrahim Babayo, has cleared the air on why the security agents who sealed and reopened the Golf Course on Saturday had left the course after the matter was temporarily resolved, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The captain during the press briefing on Monday in Abuja, said the constitution which was okayed by the Congress in 2014 contained clauses concerning termination of tenure and age limit, therefore, denying some BoT members from occupying the position for life. This leads to the unfortunate occurrence of sealing up the golf course on Saturday. According to him, the BoT Chairman stalled the process of the constitution from being registered and implemented after it was okayed by the Congress. He was alleged to also stalled the Extra Ordinary General Meeting from holding last Saturday.

He said, "it's unfortunate that this is happening under my leadership. But we need to be guided by the constitution to make resolution. The sealing of the golf course by the security agent has been settled and since opened for golfing activities.

"It is important to state that at the last Annual General meeting 2024, a BOT Selection Committee was appointed by members and given terms of reference to fill the vacancies in the BOT. The committee had finished their work and was at the point of presenting its report for the proper conduct of an election on Saturday the 15th of March 2025 before the club was shut down by security agencies subsequently preventing the scheduled Extra Ordinary General Meeting from holding.

"This club has been independent of government subversion since 2004 and was issued with a C of O in 2011. All statutory payments are up to date by the club. Note that most golf clubs, in Nigeria were built by the public funds and handed over to the members of the various clubs across the country at different times.

"In 2014 AGM a committee was set up to review the constitution of the club.

"This was successfully done 2014 but implementation and registration of the new constitution was stalled by the chairman of the BOT simply because a clause concerning tenure and age limits.

"This is the main bone for contention. Even the constitution that predates registration of the 2014 constitution has provisions for how BOT members are appointed.

" It is important to state that for a very long time, the outgone BOT was not able to form a quorum to make major decisions for the club. This has led to stagnation of the development of the club." He concluded.
