Adam Mouktar Re-elected As FCT FA Chairman

A former Nigeria Football Federation, NFF Presidential aspirant, Alhaji Mohammed Adam Mouktar has been re-elected chairman, FCT Football Association.

In the 2023 FCT FA elective Congress held at the Bwari Area Council on Saturday, June 17, Mouktar who went into the election as a sole candidate got the votes of all the 12 delegates in the election to renew his mandate for the next four years.

However, in a shocking dramatic development, Mourktar’s 1st Vice Chairman, Hon Saliu Kolo, who also contested solely for the position was rejected by the delegates as he failed to get the required number of 7 votes to affirm his return.

He got a total of five “YES” votes against seven “NO” votes to lose the election.

The critical moment of the day was the election of board members. Nine candidates, including former U-20 national team coach, Abimbola Samuel and a former Super Eagles midfielder, Femi Ajilore were among the nine candidates vying for 6 positions in the FCT FA Board.

In the election that ensued, Coach Abimbola Samuel won 11 out of 12 votes to be returned as a board member.

Others elected into the board include, Babatunde Nelson with 8 votes, Ngozi Eze, 9 votes, Femi Ajilore with 7 votes, Ayegba Pat Ajuma, 7 votes and Nigeria U-15, Future Eagles coach, Patrick Bassey who score 12-over-12 votes to be elected into the board.

Interestingly, the new FCT FA Board has two women members – Ngozi Eze and Ayegba Pat Ajuma. The previous board had Coach Ngozi Eze as the only female member.

These who lost out in the election are: Mr. Hashimu Adamu who got 5 votes out of 12, Alh. Ibrahim Koko Kuje had 3 votes while Mr. Aregba Akeem’s desire to be in the board was delayed at least till 2027 after he got only 4 votes from the available 12 votes cast

The board was sworn immediately after the declaration of the election results by the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Barrister Lawal Audi.

Speaking shortly after the swearing-in, the newly re-elected chairman, Alhaji Mouktar thanked the electoral committee for organising a fair, peaceful, rancour-free election. While thanking the delegates for the trust they reposed in him and the board, he promised to consolidate on the already made achievements in football development in the FCT.

“I will double my efforts. This is a testament and the people have decided that I have done well and they have given me another opportunity to distinguish myself, so I will do my best and double my efforts.

“We have achieved a lot in grassroots football development particularly to take development back to the Area Councils and they are very happy with the success we have recorded and now we played the league in various centres and that is the first time we are doing that.

“Human capital development remains our priority, the players, coaches, referees, administrators, we need to train and retrain them.

“We need facilities where we can play the game. We need to see other Area Councils getting better. We need players to have opportunities from the grassroots to the top. We need all the leagues to keep on going – the FA Cup and other youth and grassroots competitions.

“We need to encourage the people, the followers to continue to invest. These are things we are focusing on in the new administration,” he said.

1st Vice Chairman’s Position Is Vacant – Electoral Committee Chair

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the FCT FA Electoral Committee, Barrister Lawal Audi has disclosed that the post of the 1st Vice chairman remains Vacant until a bye-election is conducted to fill in the position.

The position became vacant following the inability of the former occupier, Hon. Saliu Kolo, who vied for the position as a sole candidate, failed to get the majority votes to reclaim his mandate.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with our correspondent, Barr Audi explained that even though he was the sole candidate for the position, the stipulation of the law must be upheld.

He added that the position will remain vacant until the new board conducts a bye-election to fill it.

“We operated based on the laws and electoral guidelines. The guideline is very clear that to emerge a winner, a candidate must get a simple majority. We have 12 delegates; it means that a simple majority is 7 votes out of the 12. Even though the candidate is unopposed, he is expected to meet up with the requirement of the law.

“The situation is unfortunate but we have to stick by the position of the law. It means that the position is vacant. When the new board comes in, there is going to be a bye-election to fill in the position of the 1st Vice Chairman,” he said.

When asked if Hon. Kolo is still eligible to stand as candidate in the bye-election, Barr. Audi said he would need to consult the rule book first.
