Ademola Lookman Scores, Misses Penalty As Atalanta Bows Out Of Champions League

Atalanta’s hopes of advancing in the UEFA Champions League were dashed on Tuesday after a 3-1 home defeat to Club Brugge in the knockout round play-offs, sealing a 5-2 aggregate exit.

Ademola Lookman gave the Italian side a glimmer of hope just after halftime, scoring in the 46th minute off a Davide Zappacosta assist to reduce the deficit to 3-1.

However, the Nigerian forward missed a crucial penalty in the 61st minute, denying Atalanta a potential comeback.

Club Brugge had dominated the first half, with an early goal from defender Chadi Riad Talbi in the third minute, assisted by Ferran Jutglà.

Talbi doubled his tally in the 27th minute before Jutglà himself made it 3-0 just before halftime.

Despite Lookman’s early second-half strike, the missed penalty proved costly as Atalanta failed to mount a comeback.

Their frustration boiled over in the closing minutes, with captain Rafael Tolói receiving a red card in the 87th minute.

Club Brugge held firm to claim a decisive victory and secure progression to the next round.
