Nigeria has opened a training camp in Lagos as preparations intensify for the 2026 African Senior Athletics Championships scheduled to begin in Accra, Ghana on May 12, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Athletes who represented the country at the World Relays in Botswana moved directly into camp after returning to Nigeria on Wednesday afternoon.

Training activities are expected to commence on Thursday evening at the Yabatech Sports Complex, with the Athletics Federation of Nigeria moving swiftly to fine-tune preparations for the continental championship.

The 24 athletes who competed at the World Relays have automatically secured places in the squad for the championships in Accra.

They will be joined by 27 additional athletes invited by the AFN, bringing the expected team size to 51 athletes for the competition in Ghana.
