African Cycling Championship: Dikko Hails Participating Nations As Competition Ends In Abuja

Team Nigeria ended its campaign at the 2026 Confederation of African Cycling Para-Track and Track African Championships on a high note as the continental event concluded at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome in Abuja, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The closing ceremony was led by the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, who praised all participating countries for their performances and commitment to the development of cycling across Africa.
Dikko described the championship as a major step forward for the sport on the continent, stressing the importance of participation and preparation in achieving global success.
“Everybody here is a winner. The most important thing is participation and preparation, to show that Africa can do well on the global international stage,” he said while officially declaring the championships closed on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Nigeria finished the championships with impressive medal performances across both the African Para-Track and African Track events, further underlining the country’s growing reputation in cycling.
The successful hosting of the championships also highlighted the National Sports Commission’s commitment to athlete development, improved sports infrastructure and its broader objective of using sports as a tool for national unity, pride and economic growth.
