Sampson Adedeji
The Confederation of African Football (CAF), under the leadership of president Patrice Motsepe, has confirmed the format for the forthcoming African Nations League, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
According to the approved structure, the competition will feature all African national teams divided into distinct geographical zones, with intense regional rivalries expected to headline the tournament.
In the West African Football Union (WAFU) B zone, Nigeria’s Super Eagles are set to face traditional rivals including Ghana’s Black Stars and Côte d’Ivoire’s Elephants in what promises to be a heavyweight battle for regional supremacy.
The African Nations League will be structured across four major zones: North Africa East Africa West Africa Central and Southern Africa Each zone will stage its own regional phase, with teams competing to emerge as zonal champions.
The winners from each region will then advance to a continental final phase, where they will battle to determine the overall champion of the African Nations League.
CAF believes the new competition will strengthen regional rivalries, increase competitive matches across the continent, and provide more structured international fixtures for African national teams.
