African Super League: Nigerian Clubs Set To Miss Out In The First Season

Just as it was reported, the maiden edition of the African Super League is set to debut in the year 2023, BSNSports.com.ng has gathered.

The club football competition was agreed to take place in the continent last year by the African soccer governing body after UEFA rejected it.

The President of CAF Patrice Motsepe in Algeria the venue of the 2022 Championship of African Nations spoke about the tournament.

He confirmed that 8-12 teams will play in the inaugural edition this year, and 16 teams in the second and 3rd years will involve 24 teams.

Out of the 8 teams mentioned none is from Nigeria and is very much likely that no club from Nigeria will participate in this year's edition.

The mentioned include Al Ahly ( Egypt), Raja Casablanca, Wydad Casablanca (Morocco), Esperance ( Tunisia), Horoya SC (Guinea), Heart of Oaks ( Ghana), Mamelodi Sundowns ( South Africa) and Simba SC ( Tanzania).

CAF delegations will visit the teams in February, as the competition is set to start in August 2023.
