Nigeria’s D’Tigers booked their place in the quarterfinals of the 2025 AfroBasket Championship in Angola with a resounding 99–90 victory over Cameroon, finishing the group stage unbeaten at the top of Group B, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The encounter began on a knife-edge, as both teams matched each other basket-for-basket in a lively first quarter, which Nigeria edged 28–27.
The D’Tigers then shifted gears in the second quarter, tightening their defense while finding their offensive rhythm. Their dominance was reflected in a 58–41 halftime lead, leaving Cameroon trailing and struggling to cope with Nigeria’s pace and precision.
By the third quarter, the contest had tilted decisively in Nigeria’s favor. With fast breaks, sharp shooting, and relentless pressure, the D’Tigers stretched the lead to 84–53, establishing a 31-point cushion that effectively ended the game as a contest.
Cameroon mounted a spirited fightback in the final quarter, but Nigeria had already done enough to secure victory. Coach’s decision to rotate the squad and rest key players allowed Cameroon to narrow the gap, before the match closed at 99–90.
NBA guard Josh Okogie led Nigeria’s charge with 16 points, seven assists, two rebounds, and two steals. Stan Okoye added 14 points, while Caleb Agada chipped in with 13.
The win means Nigeria finishes Group B with a perfect 3–0 record, advancing directly to the quarterfinals. Cameroon, as runners-up, will head to the playoff round for a chance to join them in the last eight.
