Nigeria’s D’Tigers captain, Ike Nwamu, has expressed disappointment following the team’s elimination from the ongoing 2025 Afrobasket Championship in Angola, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The 2015 champions bowed out after a 91-75 defeat to regional rivals and African powerhouse Senegal, ending their campaign earlier than expected.

Nwamu admitted that while the players gave their best, the team failed to capitalise on crucial moments that could have changed the outcome.

“It hurts. We had high hopes, we had a really good group, fun group, we all love each other, but it’s part of the game—one team has to win, another has to lose. It just wasn’t our day. They came out with more energy and we were flat at the start,” he said.

The skipper also acknowledged Senegal’s strength, describing them as a side filled with “high-level players,” while stressing that D’Tigers will learn from the experience and look ahead to future competitions.
