After Injury Layoff, Osimhen Eases Back into Action Against Fenerbahçe
By Niyi Busari
Victor Osimhen made his long-awaited return from injury during Galatasaray’s 1–1 draw with Fenerbahçe in the Intercontinental Derby on Monday evening, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The 26-year-old Nigeria international, who had been sidelined for two matches due to a muscle injury sustained while on duty with the Super Eagles, was restored to the starting lineup for the crucial clash in Istanbul.
However, despite his presence, Osimhen was unable to influence the contest and was replaced in the 89th minute by Argentine striker Mauro Icardi.
The draw leaves Galatasaray at the top of the Turkish Süper Lig standings with 33 points, maintaining a one-point lead over their unbeaten rivals.
Osimhen has a strong history in this fixture, having scored twice in last season’s cup final to help Galatasaray secure a domestic double. This season, he has registered three goals in nine league appearances and added six goals in seven UEFA Champions League matches.
His return is also a big relief for Nigerians who are waiting to see him fit for the 2025 African Nations Cup in Morocco.
