After Months of Uncertainty, Nwabali Emerges As Transfer Target
By Admin
Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali is attracting interest from multiple clubs following his recent departure from Chippa United, according to former Nigerian international Greg Etafia, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Nwabali became a free agent after mutually terminating his contract with the South African side shortly after the January transfer window. His exit followed uncertainty over his role at the club, particularly regarding his status as first-choice goalkeeper.
Etafia revealed that the 29-year-old had been pushing for a move earlier in the year, but negotiations collapsed due to complications involving his former club. He added that Nwabali drew significant interest during the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where he delivered standout performances for Nigeria.
Despite receiving multiple offers during the tournament, potential transfers failed to materialize after all parties were unable to reach agreements. His current free-agent status, however, now allows him to assess new opportunities without contractual restrictions.
Etafia further explained that Nwabali’s desire for regular playing time played a key role in his decision to leave Chippa United, especially amid increased competition for the starting position.
The goalkeeper is now expected to make a decision on his future at the end of the season as he carefully evaluates his options. Despite his recent form at international level, he was omitted from the latest Super Eagles squad for the ongoing international break.
Since making his debut for Nigeria in 2024, Nwabali has earned two AFCON medals, enhancing his reputation as a dependable and experienced shot-stopper—qualities that continue to make him an attractive prospect for clubs in need of stability in goal.
