Again, Africa Mourns As Another Nigeria Sport Administrator Dies On Sunday

The Nigeria Volleyball Federation has announced the death of one of its Board of Administration members, Sury Sam Timothy, describing his passing as a significant loss to the sport, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Timothy, who served as the Technical Representative on the federation’s board, was widely regarded as a key figure in the development of volleyball in Nigeria. In that role, he contributed to policy formulation and played an active part in advancing the technical standards of the game nationwide.
He previously held the position of Chairman of the Nigeria Volleyball Referee Association, where he was instrumental in promoting professionalism and improving the quality of officiating. His tenure saw increased emphasis on training and capacity building for referees across the country.
At the continental level, Timothy served as a member of the Zone 3 Referee Commission of the Confederation of African Volleyball, representing Nigeria in regional and international engagements. His work earned him recognition within the broader volleyball community.
In a statement, the federation described Timothy as a dedicated administrator, accomplished referee, and mentor whose contributions would have a lasting impact on the sport.
The NVBF extended condolences to his family, the Kogi State Government, colleagues, and the wider volleyball community, while praying for the repose of his soul.
The federation also acknowledged the outpouring of tributes and support from stakeholders across Africa and beyond. Special appreciation was expressed to Bouchra Hajij, President of the CAVB, and Ali Yaro, President of CAVB Zone 3, for their messages of solidarity.
Further details regarding burial arrangements are expected to be announced in due course.
