Again, NFF Plans To Postpone Election Till January Exposed

The crisis rocking the Nigeria Football Federation at all fronts are still prevalent as the current board led by Amaju Pinnick has sent a letter to the Federation of International Football Association seeking for more time before the elections of the body will take place.

In a letter made available to SunNewsonline sent to the world body on Wednesday August 10, 2022 and signed by General Secretary, Muhhamed Sanusi, the NFF led by Amaju Pinnick asked the world body to allow it stage the forthcoming election in January and not next month in September. Pinnick was re-elected for second term on September 21, 2019 and according to statute, the board tenure expires on September 20.

Authoritative sources revealed that the letter was already sent to FIFA before the NFF topshots informed the board members in an online platform of the federation.

The plan is to read the FIFA response at the AGA expected to take place next week.

Our source added that the members were irked that a few people on the board took such decision without informing others from the beginning and they are hoping to use the response to extend the tenure at the Annual General Assembly scheduled for August 16 in Beyelsa State.

 â€œIt is indeed a taboo. Rather than get the consent of the board members and the Congress before sending the letter to FIFA, the letter was sent without our consent.

 â€œThere is no doubt, a few people at the top echelon of the current board want to remain in office beyond the September date not minding what happens,” the source revealed.

There is a tentative date of August 16 for the AGA in Beyelsa and another date of September 21 for the elective Congress in a yet to be decided venue but it is clear the current board is reluctant to leave office.

 â€œThe majority of the board members are resolute to take out this current leadership for so many reasons especially because many of them were never informed about crucial decisive issues in the administration of the game,” the source added.

In a related development, the Professionals Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN) whose members withdrew the case stopping the federation from holding Congress was not invited to the NFF Emergence Congress in Bayelsa. The federation instead sent the invitation letter to the PFAN's rivals, All Nigeria Football Players Union (ANPFU). Infuriated by the Federation action, PFAN top shots have vowed to protest their excluison from the Congress after they paved way for the Emergency General Assembly to hold.

Sources revealed that it was a deliberate attempt by the Federation who has been reluctant in holding election to make PFAN uncomfortable to distrupt the AGA. BSN Sports scooped Pinnick believed January will be the best time to actualise his Third Term ambition as Nigeria politicians including the Presidency and Minister of Sports will not have time to monitor their election because they will be busy campaigning for either themselves or their candidates ahead of February 2023 General elections.
