Agent Denies Taiwo Awoniyi Is Heading To West Ham

West Ham United’s interest in Taiwo Awoniyi has been played down by his agent amid claims that the Mainz striker is a wanted man, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Awoniyi may be a familiar name to some having been on the Liverpool books for a number of years.

Awoniyi was farmed out on loan seven times before finally leaving permanently last summer, joining Union Berlin.

That move has been perfect for Awoniyi as he has racked up 15 goals in 31 Bundesliga games this season – sparking interest in his signature.

Reports from Goal in April suggested that West Ham were battling Newcastle United in the race to sign Awoniyi.

Bild suggest that there is a €20million (£17million) release clause in Awoniyi’s contract that could be activated this summer.

Liverpool have a 10% sell-on clause on Awoniyi so they will be very interested in any potential summer sale.

However, it sounds like a move to West Ham isn’t exactly in the pipeline as things stand.

West Ham do need some support for Michail Antonio up top; they still haven’t even replaced Sebastien Haller almost 18 months since selling him.

Awoniyi fits the bill as a quick and very strong striker just like Antonio, so it’s understandable that West Ham are keen.

Brommer has left the door open for Awoniyi to head to England, but he seemingly isn’t expecting a move to West Ham any time soon.
