Nigerian chess star Abdulrahman Abdulraheem Akintoye has become the highest-rated Nigerian chess player in history after attaining a live rating of 2389 at the 2026 Nigeria Chess Olympiad Qualifiers, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Akintoye achieved the remarkable milestone after gaining 24 rating points during the competition, surpassing the previous all-time Nigerian record of 2368 set by Daniel Anwuli.

The historic achievement marks a major breakthrough for Nigerian chess, with Akintoye now edging closer to the prestigious 2400 rating mark.
