Akinwunmi Optimistic Of Transparent NFF Elections

The First Vice-president of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi is optimistic that the September 30 elections will be transparent.

Akinwunmi in a statement titled 'The NFF Congress, Roadmap To A New Dispensation,' while urging the NFF to map out strategy that ease in new board, rolled out his contributions to grassroots football development in eight years.

It reads, "It was a really monumental day in Nigerian football as the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) had its Annual General Assembly on Thursday, the 18th of August, 2022 at the prestigious Best Western Plus Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The event was graced by delegates of the NFF across State and Regional levels of the Nigeria Football Federation as well as other dignitaries and stakeholders in Nigerian football. Also in attendance was the NFF 1st Vice President, Barr. Seyi Akinwunmi (popularly known as BSA), who is also Chairman, Lagos State Football Association, the Host FA. Barr. Seyi Akinwunmi has accomplished quite a number of notable feats in Nigerian football. Among these include the creation, nurturing, and development of the concept and brand of ekofootball. This brand has collaborated with local and international brands like the English Premier League, Samsung, The British Council and many others.

"The platform has cumulatively attracted over five million (male and female) football talent between ages 11-17, and has developed immensely to the growth of grassroots football, producing National Team players including: winner of the Golden Gloves award at the U-17 World cup held at the UAE, 2013. Top goal scorer at the U-17 world cup held in Chile, 2015 and a number of other top players in Nigerian football.

"As Vice President of the NFF, BSA led the youth development policy of the NFF to not only ensure youth talent identification across the entire country but also create the lowest average age ever in the Super Eagles and the highest number of graduates from the junior national teams to the Super Eagles and Super Falcons in over 20 (twenty) years.

Despite anticipated animosity and perceived tension among stakeholders regarding the possible extension of the tenure of the current NFF Executive Committee, the congress, which began in the early hours of the day, went smoothly and peacefully.

Top among what was agreed at the congress was a roadmap to the 

forthcoming elections. Contrary to speculations of an extension of the 

incumbent administration, an election date was set as Friday, 30th of 

September, 2022.

The host FA Chairman, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi, noted that with the 

conclusion of a peaceful AGA, there is optimism that the new developments there will be a transparent process leading to new NFF Elections to usher in a 

new era in our football."
