Nigerian striker Jerome Akor Adams emerged as Sevilla’s hero on Saturday after scoring a dramatic stoppage-time winner in the club’s crucial 2-1 comeback victory over RCD Espanyol in La Liga, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Super Eagles forward came off the bench in the 75th minute and delivered the decisive goal deep into added time at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium, sparking wild celebrations among the home supporters. 

Sevilla had fallen behind earlier in the second half before mounting a spirited comeback to secure three vital points in their fight against relegation. Academy defender Castrín restored parity late in the match before Akor completed the turnaround with a composed finish in stoppage time. 

According to Sofascore, Akor received a strong performance rating of 7.8 following his impactful cameo, while fellow Nigerian international Chidera Ejuke, who played the entire match, earned a rating of 7.3.

The goal marked Akor’s ninth in La Liga this season and could prove decisive in Sevilla’s battle to retain their top-flight status.

The victory lifted Sevilla further away from the relegation zone in what has become one of the tightest survival races in recent La Liga history. Reports in Spain described the result as a massive boost for the Andalusian side, who had been under intense pressure following a difficult campaign. 

With only a few matches remaining in the season, the battle for survival remains extremely tense, with just a handful of points separating several clubs in the bottom half of the table. Sevilla’s recent resurgence has revived hopes of avoiding what would have been a shocking relegation for the seven-time UEFA Europa League champions. 

Espanyol, meanwhile, remain in serious danger after extending their winless run in 2026, increasing pressure ahead of the final rounds of the campaign.
