By Gbenga Gboyega

Akwa United defeated Rivers United via a slim 1-0 scoreline to clinch all maximum points from two games and book a spot in the ongoing Naija Super 8 Semi-Finals, bsnsports.com.ng reports.

The Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos bubbled in scenes before the games following elite performances from iconic Nigerian Artist, 9ice, gracing the center stage and entertaining fans in a pre-game fiesta.

Fatai Osho's boys got the better of the Pride of Rivers today, breaking the deadlock in the second half of the game after Uche Collins carefully controlled a pass received into the 18-yard box, before slotting past Rivers' goalkeeper in the 57th minute.

Akwa United got the better of Yobe Stars in their opening fixture which featured a rainy atmosphere for most of the encounter at the Onikan Stadium.

Newly acquired Chukwuebuka Anthony from Enugu Rangers opened the scoring for Akwa before Cyril Olisema struck a screamer to double their lead, but thanks to a penalty save by Isa Ismail to save Yobe's blushes from conceding more goals.

Although Emmanuel James halved the deficit in the 55th minute, Akwa United would settle for a 2-1 win to carry the day.

The top two teams from each group will make it to the semifinals of the Naija Super 8 with Akwa United in Group B poised to face either the 1st or 2nd placed team from Group A.
