Akwuegbu Confident Super Eagles Can Win 2025 AFCON in Morocco

Former Super Eagles striker Benedict Akwuegbu has expressed strong confidence in Nigeria’s chances of winning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to take place in Morocco, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Akwuegbu praised the resilience and quality shown by the national team in recent outings but cautioned the players against complacency, stressing the need to maintain intensity even when they appear to be in control of matches.

“The performance of the Super Eagles in the last match against Tunisia was fantastic,” Akwuegbu said. “With the current form of Ademola Lookman and the way the team played, if they continue at that level and remain focused throughout games, they can go on to win the trophy.”

The former striker also commended the leadership of Nigeria’s sports administrators, singling out the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, and the Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, for fulfilling federal government commitments to sports development.

According to Akwuegbu, the timely support and reforms implemented by the commission have significantly boosted the morale of both players and officials, particularly within football.

He further applauded the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) leadership, acknowledging the contributions of NFF President Ibrahim Gusau and General Secretary Sanusi Mohammed.

“They have been doing a fantastic job,” he added. “Their efforts are clearly reflecting in the performances of the national teams, and this positive direction must be sustained.”
