Former African champions Al Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns were both in action on Friday as the 2025/26 CAF Champions League group-stage campaign continued across the continent, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Al Ahly underlined their pedigree as Africa’s most successful club by securing a convincing 2–0 victory over Tanzania’s Young Africans at the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria. The Egyptian giants, who boast a record 12 CAF Champions League titles, delivered a composed and authoritative performance to maintain their grip on Group B.
Veteran winger Mahmoud Trezeguet proved decisive, scoring both goals to steer the defending champions to a comfortable win. His clinical display ensured Al Ahly strengthened their position at the summit of the group, opening a three-point gap over second-placed Young Africans with three matches remaining.
Meanwhile, at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria, Mamelodi Sundowns were held to a 2–2 draw by a spirited Al Hilal Omdurman side in a tightly contested Group C encounter.
The South African champions twice took the lead through Arthur Sales and Teboho Mokoena, but Al Hilal’s Abdelrazeg Yagoub Omer Taha responded on both occasions, netting a brace to deny Sundowns maximum points.
Despite the setback, Sundowns remain top of Group C. However, they are now level on points with Al Hilal, setting up an intriguing battle for qualification with three group matches still to be played.
