Bin Nafal, President of Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal has opened up on why the team fell short in signing superstar players Cristiano Ronaldo, Victor Osimhen, and Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Al Hilal had hoped to bring in some big names, including Ronaldo, Osimhen, and Fernandes to strengthen their squad ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup following the appointment of Simone Inzaghi as their new coach.
Ronaldo is set to become a free agent at the end of the month, and Al Hilal saw a chance to add him on a short-term deal for the Club World Cup.
However, the move fell through. The Saudi side also tried to sign Theo Hernandez alongside Osimhen and Fernandes, but none of these transfers materialized.
As quoted by Goal, Bin Nafal explained that the failure was due to time constraints and unrealistic player demands.
“We spoke with many players, but they wanted to go on vacation after a long season. We tried to sign several players before the World Cup, but we were unsuccessful due to a lack of time and illogical offers,” said Bin Nafal.
Meanwhile, Inter Milan’s Inzaghi departed the Serie A side following their humiliating 5-0 defeat at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain.
