Al-Ittihad Welcome Super Falcons Star With Guard of Honour In First Training

Nigeria defender, Ashleigh Plumptre was warmly welcomed to her new Saudi Arabian side, Al-Ittihad.

A guard of honour was organised for her when she joined her new teammates as she trained for the first time with her new Al-Ittihad teammates.

She joined Al-Ittihad as a free agent after the expiration of her contract with English Women’s Super League (WSL) side, Leicester City at the end of the 2022/2023 season.

The defender joined Rita Chikwelu as the second Nigerian woman to join a Saudi side.

While still acclimatizing to her new club, the Super Falcons will face Sao Tome and Principe in the 2023 Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers without her.

Plumptre was excluded from the 24-player roster by Randy Waldrum for the clash with the Central Africans.

Her new switch to the Asian side and the need to settle down might be responsible for her ommission.
