Alex Iwobi Reflects On His Childhood

Nigerian international and Fulham FC midfielder, Alex Iwobi, has shared insights into his childhood experiences, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Iwobi, who began his professional career at Arsenal before moving to Everton, reminisced about his early years on the Fulham Fix Podcast.

"My parents said I could run before I even started walking. They told me I’d be sitting down, and in a split second, I’d be sprinting around the flat. They thought, ‘This baby is on crack,’" Iwobi joked.

"As a kid, I was full of energy—always running around, slide tackling balloons, kicking chairs, just kicking anything in sight. I was an energetic, weird child."

Speaking about his father’s unwavering support, he added: "You should see my dad at home—he’s always in a training kit or one of my jerseys, ready to go. But sometimes, it’s embarrassing. If we go out, he wears a jersey with ‘Iwobi’ printed on the back, and I have to tell him to chill. But he’s just really proud."

Iwobi also shared that while his father doesn’t analyze his performances in great detail, he still offers words of encouragement.

"He knows football well because he played in Nigeria, just like my uncle [Jay-Jay Okocha], so he understands the game. These days, he just says ‘well done.’ Sometimes, he asks why I didn’t take a shot when I had the chance, but that’s just him being a dad."
