Aliyu Zubair’s Telecom Climb To 5th After Hard-Fought Win Over Former Table-Toppers
By Niyi Busari
Nigerian coach Aliyu Zubair recorded his maiden league win in Egypt on Friday, guiding Telecom SC to a resilient 1–0 victory over Abu Qir Semad, who entered the fixture as league leaders, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Telecom SC were forced to play with 10 men but held firm to claim all three points in what was Zubair’s third match at the helm. The narrow win also ended Abu Qir Semad’s stay at the top of the standings.
“It’s an important win for us, especially against the league leaders. The boys really gave their best despite the numerical disadvantage,” Zubair said after the match.
Since his appointment in October, the Kwara-born tactician has overseen a 2–2 away draw against Asyut Petroleum in his debut and a goalless draw with Tanta in his second outing. The latest result lifts Telecom SC to fifth place on the table with 23 points from 14 matches, strengthening their push for promotion to the Egyptian Premier League.
Zubair joined the club alongside his assistant, Lukman Ijaiya, as Telecom SC seeks to build momentum in the second tier.
