Amaechi Books Spot At 2025 World Athletics Championships

Nigerian discus thrower Obiageri Amaechi has booked her ticket to the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo after surpassing the automatic qualification mark in style, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Competing at the Oklahoma Throws Series in Ramona, Amaechi delivered the best performance of her career, throwing a massive 64.80m to clinch victory.

The effort was not only a personal best by nearly two metres but also comfortably cleared the World Athletics qualifying standard of 64.50m.

The 26-year-old, born in the United States, has represented Nigeria since 2022 and continues to rise as one of the nation’s top field athletes.

Her growing résumé includes gold at the 2023 African Games, bronze at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, another bronze at the 2022 African Championships, and an appearance at the 2024 Olympic Games.
