Amate Emerge 2025 Captain's Cup Winner

The one-week 2025 Captain's Cup tournament has ended in style with Deontay Amate outplayed other golfers by winning the 18-hole event at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja.
A handicap 14 player, Amate, played a gross of 81 and a nett of 67 on countback to win the prestigious this year’s Captain's Cup .
Tagged, " Tiger Bows Out," the tournament trophy was competed for among the best in the Club with over 300 golfers.
Speaking after receiving the trophy, Amate ascribed his victory to excellent preparations and perfect execution. He, however, commended other golfers for putting up a good fight in the fairways.
Handicap 4 Mohammed Suleiman emerged the Best nett champion, played 73 gross and 69 nett in Men division one category while Prof. Bola Afolabi won Men Division 2 with 85 gross and 66 nett. Rokan Ojomo led the Men Division 3 category.
In the Ladies division 1 category, Past Lady Captain and a member of Board of Trustees, Grace Ihonvbere emerged the Best nett winner with 84 gross and 70 nett, while Pastor Anne Abimiku came top in the Division 2 as Joy Igwugwu won the Division 3 category.
S. Okwuokei won the Men Veteran while former Inspector General of Police, Sunday Ehindero emerged the winner of Men Super Veteran. Past Lady Captain Aphia Yaduma is the champion of the Ladies Veteran while Nkechi Nwaogu topped the Ladies Super Veteran category.
Outgoing Club Captain Ibrahim Babayo, popularly called Tiger by members of the club, described the one year administration as excellent. He said they will hand over the baton, with their heads high, proud and excited. He listed their achievements to include complete restoration of the golf course, replacement of all sprinklers, repair of critical maintenance machinery, implementation of a new access control system as well as renovation of the clubhouse reception.
He commended other executive members for their steadfastness, good team work and unwavering support and commitment to stand with him during the recent unfortunate incident in the Club.
Chairman, Organising Committee of the 2025 Captain's Cup, Ambassador Ben Okoyen thanked all those who supported them during the preparations of the week long tournament. He described the game of Golf as a teacher of humility, builder of friendships, and a testament to the power of integrity.
Highlights of the night of celebration include presentations of trophies, awards, and recognition of sponsors and other dignitaries.
