Amokachi Declares: African Football Has Fully Mature

Former Super Eagles striker Daniel Amokachi has asserted that African football has already come of age, contrary to ongoing claims that it is still in a developmental phase, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Speaking on the ongoing U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, the ex-Everton forward dismissed the narrative that the continent's football is still emerging.

"People often say African football is growing, but I always tell them — it has already grown," Amokachi stated.

"If it hadn’t, we wouldn’t see so many African players thriving in top leagues around the world." Reflecting on past experiences, he noted the significant evolution in coaching approaches.

 "In the past, young African coaches would bark instructions non-stop. I’ve been there myself — shouting from the touchline," he recalled.

"But now, even when teams are trailing, coaches remain calm, communicate clearly and with confidence. That’s a major advancement."

Amokachi further emphasised that the progress isn't limited to the sidelines.

"It’s not just about coaching demeanour — you can see tactical evolution on the pitch as well," he concluded.
