Amusan, Brume, Other RTP Athletes Get Sept 21 Deadline To Submit Whereabouts

Amusan,

The Athletics Integrity Unit, AIU, has changed the deadline for athletes on its Registered Testing Pool, RTP, to submit their whereabouts.

The body, saddled with combating doping in the sport of athletics disclosed in a tweet on its verified twitter handle that the new deadline for submission of the whereabouts is now Wednesday September 21, 2022.

”#RTP athletes please take note, the whereabouts deadline has been changed to Wednesday 21 September, 2022,’ wrote the AIU on twitter.

Athletes on Athletics Federation of Nigeria and World Athletics’ Registered Testing Pool are among the highest-performing athletes in their sport, and as their performances increase, so do their anti-doping responsibilities.

Some of the Nigerian athletes expected to comply with the new deadline include Tobi Amusan who is the reigning world 100m hurdles champion and Ese Brume, long jump silver medallist at the World Championships in Oregon, USA.

Also captured in the RTP are field eventers Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, Chioma Onyekwere and Oyesade Olatoye.

Sprinters Divine Oduduru and Enoch Adegoke are also expected to take notice of the new deadline.

A registered testing pool is designed to ensure that all athletes maintain a clean track record both in-and-out of competition.

‘Under World Antidoping Agency, WADA’s “whereabouts” rule, all athletes must make themselves available to drug testers for one hour a day, between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m., ninety days in advance, for out-of-competition testing.

Refusing to submit to doping control can carry the same sanction as a positive test.

If an athlete refuses to take a test when notified, he/she must provide an explanation for the refusal on the relevant form and inform his/her governing body as soon as possible.
