Amusan, Other Ultimate Championship Winners to Receive Trophies, Unique Bracelets

Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan and other athletes competing at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship will be awarded trophies instead of traditional medals, World Athletics has announced, BSNSports.com.ng reports 

The global championship, scheduled to take place from September 11 to 13 in Budapest, Hungary, will feature a new awards concept designed to emphasise the significance of becoming an Ultimate Champion.

According to World Athletics, only athletes who finish first in their respective disciplines will receive trophies, with no silver or bronze medals being presented.

World Athletics President Sebastian Coe said the decision reflects the championship’s core objective of identifying the “best of the best” in global track and field.

“We have made an intentional decision to move away from medals as the awards at the Ultimate Championship,” Coe said.

“This global championship is all about striving to be the one athlete who comes out on top. Distributing awards for the top three didn’t feel true to that foundational concept, so we are instead focused on the trophies given to the winners of each discipline.”

In addition to the winners’ trophies, every athlete participating in the inaugural championship will receive a personalised bracelet as a unique token of participation.

The adjustable bracelets will have each athlete’s name inscribed on the exterior, while the official event name will be engraved on the interior.

Amusan, who is among the athletes expected to compete at the championship, will therefore have the opportunity to claim one of the specially designed trophies while also receiving the commemorative bracelet alongside her fellow competitors.

The Ultimate Championship is expected to bring together the world’s leading track and field athletes as they compete for the distinction of becoming the ultimate champion in their respective events.
