Amusan Drops To Third In World Rankings Despite Points Gain

Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan, the women’s 100m hurdles world record holder, has slipped to third place in the latest global athletics rankings, even after improving her points tally with strong performances in China, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Amusan increased her ranking points from 1,379 to 1,385 following impressive displays at the Diamond League meetings in Shanghai and Xiamen. 

She posted times of 12.41 seconds in Shanghai and a quicker 12.28 seconds in Xiamen.

However, the reigning Olympic champion, American hurdler Russell, claimed the top spot after recording back-to-back victories at the two Diamond League events. 

The 26-year-old posted outstanding times of 12.25 seconds and 12.14 seconds, boosting her ranking score to 1,391 points.

Just over a week ago, Russell sat in fourth position. 

Her recent dominant performances enabled her to overtake her compatriot, who now occupies second place with 1,386 points.

Despite the drop to third, Amusan remains one of the leading contenders in the women’s 100m hurdles as the 2026 season progresses.
