Arokodare Opens Season Account In Genk's Defeat To Standard Liège
Sampson Adedeji
Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare scored his first goal of the 2025/26 Belgian Jupiler Pro League season, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Genk from falling to a 2-1 defeat away to Standard Liège on Sunday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The 24-year-old, whose name has been linked with several clubs during the summer transfer window, including Serie A sides AC Milan and Atalanta, and Premier League club Fulham, came on as a second-half substitute.
Arokodare replaced Jarne Steuckers in the 67th minute and made an immediate impact, scoring just three minutes later in the 70th minute.
However, his strike proved a mere consolation, as Genk suffered their second loss in three games this season.
Currently sitting in 14th place on the Jupiler Pro League table, Genk have earned just one point from their opening three fixtures.
They’ve scored three goals but conceded five, leaving them with a negative goal difference of -2.
Arokodare’s goal-scoring form from last season, where he netted 21 goals across the regular season and play-offs, helped secure Genk’s place in this season’s UEFA Europa League, where his contributions were crucial to the team’s success.
