Atlético Expects More From Lookman After Griezmann's Exit

Super Eagles striker Ademola Lookman will play a lead role in Atlético Madrid's forward line, as Diego Simeone and his assistants expect more from the Nigerian this season, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The Nigerian showed his quality, as it took him five minutes to score a brace in Atlético's 4-1 win against Getafe in a pre-season warm-up match.
According to AS, Lookman, who joined in the last winter transfer window, played 24 games for Atleti, scoring nine goals and providing four assists.
That means he scored a goal every 153 minutes (a better average than Julián and Griezmann); including assists, Lookman was involved in a goal every 106 minutes, by far the best average for Atleti in the 2025-26 season.
And the coaching staff doesn't expect any less from him this season. There's great satisfaction with these first few weeks of preseason, beyond the goals against Getafe in the first friendly, which have focused more on the team's style of play, movement on the field, and building partnerships.
" Lookman is flying," they're saying in the locker room. The Nigerian has looked very fit since Los Ángeles de San Rafael and has been fully engaged in every session.
After a few months of adaptation and positive feelings, the demands are rising, not only in terms of football but also in terms of leadership on the pitch.
That's why his good physical condition is also being celebrated, as he suffered various problems in the spring that prevented him from completing several matches. And Simeone is working on many aspects with him, both in attack and defence.
