Atlas Lions Defeat Haiti in Six-Goal Thriller, Set for Netherlands Clash

By BSN Sports

Morocco secured a thrilling 4-2 victory over Haiti but were unable to claim top spot in Group C, as Brazil's win over Scotland ensured the Atlas Lions finished as runners-up, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The African champions endured a difficult start when Haiti stunned them with an early breakthrough in the 10th minute. A dangerous attack resulted in an unfortunate own goal by Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, giving the Caribbean side a surprise lead.

Morocco responded positively and found an equaliser through Achraf Hakimi, who capped off a sustained spell of pressure. However, Haiti regained the advantage in spectacular fashion when Wilson Isidor produced one of the standout goals of the tournament to restore his side’s lead.

With the match finely balanced, Morocco drew level again just before half-time as Ismael Saibari finished clinically to make it 2-2 heading into the interval.

The second half saw Morocco assert their dominance. Substitute Soufiane Rahimi completed the comeback with a decisive goal before later providing an assist for Gessime Yassine, whose strike sealed a 4-2 victory.

While the scoreline reflected Morocco’s attacking quality, it arguably did not capture the competitiveness of a spirited Haitian performance in their final World Cup appearance.

Despite collecting all three points, Morocco were denied first place in the group after Brazil defeated Scotland 3-0 in the other Group C fixture.

Morocco will now turn their attention to the Round of 32, where they are expected to face the Netherlands, winners of Group F, in Guadalupe on June 29.
