Ibraheem Lateef
Nigerian music star Ayra Starr says it was incredible moments watching Manchester United heroes Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie, as she credits her brothers with her choice of football club, reports BSNSports.com.ng.
The Premier League club magazine Inside United caught up with the Afropop sensation earlier this year to hear about her love of all-things Red.
Her song Rush achieved international recognition in 2022 and reached no.24 in the UK, making Ayra the first Nigerian female artist to have a solo song in the UK’s official singles chart.
But away from her music, she loves nothing more than following United and enjoying some football banter with her brothers. Read on to find out about her admiration for Marcel Sabitzer, why the no.5 shirt holds some special magic, and which player in world football she would love to see wear our famous colours.
Music sensation Ayra was born in Benin but moved with her family to Lagos, Nigeria.
When and why did you start supporting Manchester United?
I started supporting Manchester United because of my brothers. Their banter around football was as exciting as it often got annoying, but when you stick around long enough, it begins to rub off on you, and the initiation eventually becomes automatic.
Who was your first United hero?
I’ve had incredible moments watching Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie. I love Patrice Evra’s personality as well, but much of that was after he had left the club and became very active on Instagram. I loved these players for their skilfulness, and it was just very easy to brag with my brothers when you have this calibre of player on your team.
