BELGIAN

Nigerian international Paul Onuachu helped Genk to a 4-2 win against Mechelen in the Belgian League on Friday night, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The attacker wasn’t on the scoresheet for the 78 minutes he featured in before being replaced by Theo Bongonda who came on to score in the game.

Genk was out of control, and Mechelen put the opposing defense to work in the first quarter of an hour. It also took a miraculous intervention from Vandevoordt to maintain the equality, this one intervening brilliantly in front of Schoofs at close range following a low cross from Storm in the 26th minutes.

However, it was Genk who took the lead: in the wake of an individual action by Oyen (30th), Muñoz opened the scoring following a nice collective movement, isolated in a small space by Ito at 31st minutes.

After the break, the Malinois continued their good momentum of the first half with a cannon shot from Hairemans which went crashing on the crossbar in 58th minutes. They were finally rewarded when Cuypers headed down a cross for Hairemans, in the heart of a wait-and-see defense, who shot the opposing goalkeeper in the 60th minutes.

The opportunities multiplied, and Shved from a distance in the 65th minutes, then Onuachu after an impressive solitary effort in the 66th minutes, each tried their luck before McKenzie crossed a header too close at close range at 70th minutes. Fresh from the game, Bongonda restored the lead to Genk with a cross shot, after an incursion by Paintsil at 80th minutes.

Mechelen reacted quickly, and Schoofs adjusted Vandevoordt who had ventured out of position on a distant free kick to restore parity at 84th minutes. Bongonda replied to him, surprising Coucke himself with a free kick from a distance, passed in the middle of the wall at 87th minutes. Genk finally offered a fourth goal on a deadly counter while Mechelen played everything, thanks to Paintsil in two stages at 95th minutes.
